¡Feliz Día De Los Muertos, y’all! As some of you may recall, a couple of weeks ago David and I attended the Día De Los Muertos celebration at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery here in LA but today is the actual Day of the Dead. Each year, folks hold a traditional Día De Los Muertos celebration on Olvera Street in downtown LA (the oldest street in Los Angeles) and each year, I try to attend the celebration. Last night, David and I made our way out to Olvera St. to enjoy the parade, the prayers & blessings, the face painting and the camaraderie that comes with Day of the Dead. Last night was my third Day of the Dead fest on Olvera street and it was truly one of the best.

I am always in awe of this traditional celebration. I love that so many children are allowed to participate … it’s such a beautiful celebration. David and I always have a great time on Olvera St. and last night was no exception. It’s really something to see so many people come together for this ancient traditional celebration. I’m thinking that we may have to celebrate Día De Los Muertos next year in Mexico ;) Now that would be amazingly cool.

Tonight, Darion and I are getting together for a LONG overdue dinner hang out and then later on, I’m seeing Filter live in concert at The Viper Room. I hope your Hump Day is a good one. Happy Wednesday ;D

Installing Your Own Stereo Equipment

As creating storyboards digitally becomes more popular, we asked professional storyboard artist He his views on the pros and cons of working digitally. Max started his career creating storyboards traditionally (pen/pencil and paper) and has been a purely digital storyboard artist for the past few years.

Writing Music As Expressive Therapy

This violin is like no other you have ever seen or played before. I fell in love with it the moment I heard it being played by an excellent musician named Edward Howe, who incorporated it with a Boss Loop Station into his live set. Having fallen in love with it, I was rather surprised when I first played one that it felt uncomfortable and strange to hold. So what was the problem?

Shannen Doherty Ties The Knot In Malibu!

Brenda Walsh Shannen Doherty is officially a married woman!
She and her fiance Kurt Iswarienko tied the knot at a private estate nestled in the hills of Malibu on Saturday.
The two said "I do" to each other at sunset in front of family and friends at their swanky black-tie ceremony, which was filmed for the season [...]

No surprise. He needs to get rest!

Despite suffering from two seizures, Rick Ross still planned on taking the stage at his North Carolina and Memphis shows over the weekend.

Looks like Rick changed his mind though, (which he should have done in the first place!) and decided to cancel his performances at the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina and his Friday night show in Memphis.

Rick's reps wouldn't elaborate on WHY he decided to cancel, but we have a pretty good feeling that it was due to his health.

Take time to get some rest and take care of yourself, Rick. Your health is way more important!

Dedicated To Jose Carreras

An article about one of the most popular arias in Verdi's opera "La Traviata" which I would like to dedicate to the Romanian soprano and friend of mine; Elena Georgian. "Di Provenza Il Mar, Il Suol" being a baritone's aria which was once even heard on the American sitcom "The Odd Couple" when Richard Fredericks performed it as a personal favor to both Felix and Oscar.

Arts and Entertainment:Music from EzineArticles.com

If I asked you how long do you think that the Electric Violin has been around, you would more than likely scratch you head, and hazard a guess at from the 1960's. Your reasoning, (which is wrong by the way) is probably because lots of innovations took place in this period, and you would assume that this was one of them.

First Look: The First Posters For Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows Are Released

Back in July we got our first look at the first movie trailer released for the upcoming sequel film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. What’s worse than your sex tape leaking? Perhaps the 15 digits on your American Express Centurion card, that infamous invitation-only “black” card that supposedly can rush a helicopter or a circus to your location with a quick phone call. That’s what Diddy claims happened to him, with copies of his credit limit-less card appearing online. Though it’s not like anyone can really go on a private island shopping spree with the card — you can be sure it’s already been deactivated. But that’s not the end of Diddy’s headaches: copies of his passport and private phone numbers were also leaked. Quick getaway to St. Maarten with Flo Rida, anyone? [Source; photo is a composite]

Police Investigate Resident Evil Set Accident

Here's hoping this was just an unfortunate accident and not some foul-play!
This morning, several cast and crew members on the set of Resident Evil 5 were injured after a platform shifted and the stage collapsed. Initially, the incident was ruled an accident, but the ministry has send an inspector to Cinespace’s Kipling Studio to [...]

Oh man!

Accidental or not, the tittays just can't seem to stay put on reality dancing competitions worldwide!

Check out the latest wardrobe malfunction from Univision Network's Mira Quién Baila, when singer Cristian Zuárez's partner loses what looks to be her costume's padding in the middle of their performance to “I’m Your Boogie Man" (above)!

Instead of trying to ignore it, however, Zuárez halts the dance in the middle of the routine out of respect to her!

Maybe he was going for the sympathy votes! Fair enough, we'd say!

Must have been tough to concentrate with all of that extra movement! Ha!

We wonder if any of Denzel Washington's old professors would have guessed how much money he'd be putting back into their work.

The Oscar-winning actor recently donated $2.25 million to the theatre department at Fordham University.

$25,000 of the gift will go to a worthy undergraduate theatre student in the form of scholarship. The rest will be used to create the Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre.

Television and Broadway actress Phylicia Rashad has already filled the chair position! One of her duties includes teaching the class "Creating a Character."

When he gave the gift, Denzel stated:

I wanted to create the Denzel Washington Endowed Scholarship and Chair in Theatre at Fordham in order to offer the next generation of students positive influences. Phylicia Rashad, as the inaugural holder of the chair, will provide the care, compassion and that extra push to help take students where they’re meant to go.

In a time when Snoop has added bubblegum-pop and vocal house (heavy on the autotune) to his resume, and every second urban artist has joined forces with David Guetta, it's refreshing to see a long-standing superstar like Jill Scott stay true to her roots and continue to churn out heartfelt, down-to-earth neo-soul. The three-time Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter has released her forth studio album The Light of the Sun. Although four years since her previous release, Scott has had a consistently successful career spanning over a decade, primarily in music but also dabbling in film and television.

Sherlock Holmes 3 gets a Screenwriter

The game is afoot, as the Warner Brothers ′Sherlock Holmes 3′ production team hires a screenwriter. With the second Guy Ritchie film due out on December 16, ′Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows′, starring Robert Downing, Jr., and Jude Law, screenwriter Drew Pearce has gotten the nod to begin work on the third installment. Pearce′s latest project is the script for ′Iron Man 3′. He also assisted on the script for the upcoming alien invasion movie, ′Pacific Rim′, which will begin filming shortly. Robert Downing, Jr. will be return to the silver screen at least two more times as the classic sleuth, Sherlock Holmes. Image Credit: Mr. Blue / Wenn.com. Sherlock Holmes is one of those great characters in our literary culture who is truly timeless. In 2009, the BBC along with PBS here in America revamped the private detective for the 21st Century, with Holmes, a border-line crazy, sending text messages to Inspector Lestrade. Watson was an injured veteran from Afghanistan with some personal demons of his own to contend with. Most of us will remember the old British series from Granada TV, starring Jeremy Brett, considered the best actor to play Holmes after Basil Rathbone. Some would say [...]

Survivor Episode 6 Recap Divided Loyalties

We will begin the recap of Episode 6 of Survivor: South Pacific at Savaii Beach on Night 14 after Tribal Council. Ozzy is upset that his alliance betrayed him, booting Elyse. Actually, only one of his allies, Jim, voted her off. Dawn and Cochran supplied the rest of the votes. Keith and Whitney took the chickens way out and cast their votes for Dawn instead of Cochran, which is whom Ozzy and Elyse had targeted. Ozzy let it be known that he now considers himself a free agent, playing only for himself. He also let everybody know that he has the hidden immunity idol. If that were not enough, he also reminded all that there is always Redemption Island, and since he is very good at challenges, there is high probability that he would return to the game. Coach Ben Wade struggles with divided loyalties as Upolo Tribe splits their votes at Tribal Council. Image Credit: Wenn.com. Day 15 and we find Ozzy off fishing by himself, avoiding the company of others. The rest of the Savaii Tribe thinks he is acting like a spoiled brat and demand that he apologizes. Rap Beats Online

Depending on the source, the inventors/creators of Bossa Nova music were Pixinguinha, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto, or an unnamed group of musicians who met nightly at the apartment of Nara Leao parents during the mid-1950s, or at the Cantina do Cesar, or at the Plaza nightclub. So how did all this confusion arise, and how can we figure out what actually happened?

One Night In… New York City!

What an extraordinary night!!!!!!
About 3,000 lucky concertgoers in New York City celebrated Spirit Day on Thursday with a truly spirited celebration of music at our 2nd "One Night In… New York City" party during CMJ Music Festival week.
It was awesome to the sauce!!!!
And none of it would have been possible without the support of our [...]

Nicole Scherzinger is said to be devastated from a recent split between herself and Formula 1 champ Lewis Hamilton.

The two had been together for four years, but it looks like busy schedules started to make a dent in their lovebug.

Sources say:

Nicole and Lewis have tried to make it work but realized it's just not happening so have called it a day once and for all.

They've spoken at length about it but agreed there's no point as they never see each other. They spend their whole time on opposite sides of the world.

Increasingly hectic schedules this year have meant limited face-to-face time. They've probably spent more time on the phone or on Skype than they have in person.

Sadly, Nicole's job on X Factor USA appears to have come at the cost of her relationship This, plus Lewis's crazy international jet-set lifestyle, put immeasurable strain on the pair.

Friends of the Pussycat Doll say she thought Lewis was the one. Aww, poor NicNic! It's all right. Just eat a tub of Ben & Jerry's froyo, put on some hot pink work-out gear, and watch A LOT of comedies!

10 Great Rock Piano Riffs

Having spent all day looking at bands for hire, they all seem to blend into one. For the large part they share almost identical set lists, play pretty much the same instruments and, to be honest, are largely uninspiring. Even the tribute bands appear to be cast from the same mould, regardless of which group or artist they're paying homage to.

The Best Way To Pick Out The Perfect Acoustic Drum Set

From three-minute pop classics to the psychedelic extravaganza of "Sgt. Pepper", their songs sound tracked the Sixties. They were the greatest group in history. They probably always will be. The Beatles were, quite simply, phenomenal. They changed lives; they changed pop music; they changed the world. In writing their own hits, they set a pattern that would liberate popular music from its Tin Pan Alley roots and pave the way for even greater self-expression from the generations that followed.

Three Unusual Bands for Hire

Growing up a shy boy without any siblings who was attached to his parents and teased in class for being a "momma's boy" before starting his calling in the music industry, Elvis Presley is generally regarded as the King of Rock and Roll, and his journey to the top was much more modest than you might imagine. He was an only child after his twin brother was delivered stillborn only 35 minutes before he was in January of 1935 in a little two-room shotgun house that his father built in Tupelo Mississippi.

The involuntarily manslaughter trial for Dr. Conrad Murray is finally well underway, and despite his lawyers alleging that when the cardiologist left Michael Jackson briefly on the day he died, it was the pop icon himself who gave himself the fatal dosage of Propofol, a source close to the case has revealed that the Los Angeles police department found NO proof of such, as his fingerprints were no where to be found on the prescription bottles!

The insider explains:

"Plain and simply, the Los Angeles Police Department didn't find any fingerprints of Michael Jackson's on ANY Propofol bottles or the Lorazepam bottles. There were no partial fingerprints of Michael's or any unknown prints on the medication bottles."

Which, of course, only makes the testimony from paramedics and the E.R. doctor on call that day, who all claim that Murray never told them that he had given Jackson Propofol, all that more damning!

It just keeps getting shadier and shadier, doesn't it?

All we have to say is: Murray's defense team has their work cut out for them!

Lenny Kravitz Lined Up To Join The Voice (UK)!

Wowsa! Lenny's got SO MUCH going on these days!
Last we heard from Lenny Kravitz, he had announced his new tour, as well as his new album Black and White America!
Now, we're hearing that Lenny is likely to join the upcoming UK version of The Voice as a judge!
Here's what a source had to say about [...]

It's an age old argument, one that has been debated upon for many, many years. We're actually a little surprised that this might be the first time this topic has come up on The View. Then again, we're more surprised to have heard seen Barbara Walters so effortlessly turned the phrase.

The hot topic today - The N-Word. We know we all shouldn't use it, yet its still a colloquialism heard frequently. Granted, its mainly only heard in rap songs and stand-up comedy, but its also only seems expectable to use it if you are a certain race. Today, both Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters used the full version of the n-word when talking about the Herman Cain's/Rick Perry scandal. Sherri Shepherd quickly interjected after Barbara spoke, exclaiming that Bab's way of saying it had a "different connotation" than Whoopi's. Things exploded from there.

Check out the video (above) to hear the panel get very heated over the topic and usage of the word. Personally, we'd like to see the word fade into nonexistence from everyone's vocabulary. But we also agree with Whoopi in that we shouldn't act like it never existed either. In fact, we agreed with a lot of the stuff Whoopi was saying.

What do U think? Did it bother U that Barbara said the full N-word?

In the early hours of this morning, the police were called to the West Village apartment of Ashley Dennis, the stepdaughter of former New York Governor David Paterson. Police arrived to find Ashley standing over the body of Brian McGuinness, her boyfriend for over a year. According to the police report, Ashely hit Brian over the head with a frying pan in self defense as the two were having an argument and Ashely claims he came after her. She first threw a bottle at him to stop his advance and then clocked him on the head with a frying pan.

Brian, who is being charged for assault for choking Ashley, was taken to the hospital and treated with three stitches. Ashley didn't sustain any injuries but she is also being charged with assault.

Boo! Violence is never the answer, but we're glad she had the strength to stand up for herself. Course, we wish she could've done it without the frying pan al la Tangled.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees: Joan Jett, Heart, Guns N Roses More!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees for 2012 were announced this morning. Who will be inducted this time around? First time nominees include Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Cure, Heart and Guns N’ Roses. Several groups return for another chance at induction, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, Donovan and War. So many of these acts were such a part of my growing up, and a definite soft spot for Joan Jett. Her I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll album was one of the first records I purchased, and remember that day as if it were yesterday. It was played so much that it skipped during Crimson and Clover. Oh, the memories! Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, spoke of the elite group of candidates: “The 2012 Nominees embody the broad scope of what ‘rock and roll’ means. From vocal groups to hip hop, from singer-songwriters to hard rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” A committee of 40 rock aficionados select the nominees, and ballots are then sent out to 500 rock and roll [...]

As many of you know, I am a big fan of vintage Polaroid photography and from time to time I like to pick up new vintage cameras online. Most of the Polaroid cameras you find on eBay can be quite expensive (tho, great deals can be had from time to time). These days, I find vintage Polaroid cameras on sites like Etsy for very, very reasonable prices. Case in point, I managed o stumble upon a beautiful black Polaroid One Step Plus camera with Q Light flash attachment … and my new cam arrived yesterday.

This camera is just so cool to look at, I love it. David’s mother gave me the Hauslaib family Polaroid camera to add to my collection and it looks exactly like this camera but in white. I think I’ll use this black camera more often than the white one. But, overall, my fave Polaroid camera style is the boxy Polaroid 600 camera from the early/mid 80s. In any event, this new addition to my Polaroid collection will surely inspire me to snap new photos :)

Tonight, David and I are heading downtown to see our friend Josh Z. perform in a new play. It’s a flashmob sort of thing so I’m not sure what to expect. It sounds cool and, for Josh’s sake, I hope it is cool. We shall see. Happy Tuesday!!

Music Review: After Midnight Project

Many elementary school and middle school programs give children an opportunity to learn about music. For kids who are enchanted with it, learning how to play a musical instrument is a dream come true. Not only does it give a child enjoyment, it gives them the foundation to read music, count a beat, work in an ensemble and learn to be comfortable in front of an audience.
